Kanda Naal Mudhalai..

Swarasthaanam completed 2 years this February. And, I vanished off the face of the blogging world for 9 long months!!

Well, as many of you might already know, my son Ayush came along in June of last year. He's almost 9 months, a happy-go-lucky child with a long tail that needs to be constantly tucked in!! As for life, it's filled with a pair of tiny feet which makes every passing minute memorable & absolutely adorable which I never thought possible...

Last year was pretty good, *eventful* is the right word I guess. Got to meet Anup Menon in June although wish he had stayed for a longer time!! New years was good, spent a little differently-- hitting the pillow before midnight for a change. And finally met up with Murali Venkatraman aka MS of dhool forum -- after nearly a year and a half of being in touch via phone and IM's. We thought of recording something in those 5 days that he stayed with us, but then, Ayush was too intent on pulling his glasses every conceivable chance the kid got-- so one might say it didn't exactly work out as expected ;-)

Finally, here is a song after a long break. Thanks Jo for mixing the song.

Wow - What a song for a darling Ayush ! Not sure if you'd have sung such a beautiful song for your darling Hubby....( Just kidding )...but we all do so many wonderful things for our children.!!

Wonderful comeback Meera, loved it...though I felt it would have been even better without the karaoke. Your voice is wonderful!

Jo has done a great job mixing - Especially around 3.00 mark.

I missed Murali. Couldn't make it..I feel bad about it even today whenever I think about it.

Again - Thanks Meera for a wonderful song...Thanks Ayush for making your mom sing a delightful song !

A great rendering. But I still feel the life in the original singing is missing in your version. It doesnt feel like you have given YOUR best.

"vENdinEn unai vENdinEn..
kaNNanai sila nEram kadanaaga thaa ..yashodha."

were the lines I wrote about a gopika seeking to borrow baby Krishna from Yashodha with the selfish intention of handling the bubbly bundle of joy. That is exactly what I did to Meera when I saw Ayush. His big eyes and incessant smile endeared me to him in the 5 days - the longest I have ever been in a friend's place in USA - and of course with this beautiful baby around thoughts for musical exercises just did not seem to flash in our minds. In fact, I, who usually engages in long music discussions with friends spanning day and night ending up with a sore throat the next day making it impossible to talk for a week to come, barely made a musical conversation with Meera for more than 10 minutes. And I certainly do/did not complain ! Ayush decks my desktop and my colleagues who wander around take an unmistakable peep and inquire about this effervescent baby and am I happy to tell them about him ?! And I certainly enjoyed all the cutting humor of Mano !

And for the song..enna solradhu un rendition i paththi. I have earlier said that there are some songs tailor made for you and this is certainly one. A voice with a flow and tonality that is intoxicating with the only irritant being the "dongu-dakku" orchestration (compare this with the un-infringing orchestration of Rehman's alaipaayudhe) of the insipid yuvan Shankar. Your voice takes the cake and I would have loved it even more had you done it with just a harmonious drone (shruthi) in the background highlighting the beauty of of your vocals. appo kaNNai moodiNdu anubavikkara sugam vandhu irukkum. Only that is missing.

Wonderful, as usual !!! And our little vaalu looks great with his lively eyes...as usual, again :-)

Ahha....excellent Meera! I am listening to it over and over again. Ayush looks like a typical vaalu - lovely pic, lovely voice...

Keep up the good work!

Hi Meera..

Great song and rendition. Really enjoyed it. Looks like its set in dharmavathi/madhuvanthi.

Hi Meera,

Honest comments. Lovely voice. You have the talent for voice modulation.

Voice strength is lacking in the pallavi, better in the first charanam and much better in the second charanam.

Bhrigas - Could've been much better. My heart missed a beat every time you missed the right bhriga (Esp. the last sangathi of Kanda NaaL. I wish I could sing it to tell you exactly and I'm bad at identifying swarams).

I'm sure it must've been difficult because of the fast pace of the song. Not too difficult for you.

If possible, please rerecord the song and post it.

Cheers...and keep up the great work...you inspire me to sing :-)
