Been donkeys years since I posted anything. Well, however the donkey now decided to bray and here's the result *LOL*
I still distinctly remember this movie, being the controversial dig it was at intercaste marraiges. Created an uproar then. Actually coming to think about it, not a bad concept given the conservativeness TamilNadu was immersed in then. Probably still is....*ahem ahem*
Ilayaraja at this absolute best here- such evergreen ones! Ofcourse, my favourite was not the much acclaimed "Aayiram thaamarai" but the rather pleasant, amazing seconds laden "Kaathal Oviyam". I touched cloud nine when the latter became my maiden stage song when Thillana launched way back in 2000.
This song featured today has an especially amazing quality to it.
Reasons: set in Suddha dhanyaasi which in itself is such a mesmerizer, the way the orchestration has been woven into the song, and to top it all the light jathi which accompanies the 1st interlude giving a wee bit more insight into what IL is - a strong propogator of melody and a stickler to structure.
There is a lot of confusion as to who rendered the female part, B.S.Sasirekha or Jency. I debated that and finally decided to take my ears into consideration alongside some reliable music portals information. So BSS it is....
Murali sent me this karaoke ages ago and has shown considerable restraint in not reminding me no more than once a week (-: Thanks for the karaoke Murali.
And.....as always criticisms are welcome. Well for accolades, I accept Mastercard and Visa *Grin*

Finally you are back..Good song and excellent singing. Pradip's starting line sounds a bit harsh..
Never heard the song before, but it was an amazing rendition by both of you:)
Thanks for sharing:)
Fantabulous ! The rest is history !! Meera you sound better than BS. Sasirekha no kiddin !!! Standin Ovation !! You best post to date ...Keep up the good work !
Pradip Awesome as always !
Glad you are back with a wonderful song. You have sung this real nice.
Meera,
Man,this song is awesome. You have sung it really well. You have an excellent talent.
Good Luck.
Love,
Shobana
wow... nice to hear your voice again meera... what a start you gave... very happy to listen to this wonderful song...
Pradip nice job...
Meera, Pradip, Murali:
Awesome!
Meera:
I cannot ask for anything better in this song. You are simply uneblievable in this song. Pradip's portion is the best sabji that one can get in the full course meal you have given us. Thanks for gracing the song. I have listened to it 4-5 timew already. Great job.
coool Meera!! You sound great!
coool Meera!! You sound great!
wow...Meera..you steal the show...Pradip is awesome as usual...Murali good job on the track...overall..Nalla Kutcheri kaetta thripthi.
Good show Meera and Pradip. Meera you sound pretty neat throughout except for a few places where you sound tired. I wish you had maintained the feel you gave right in the beginning.
Pradip truely a sincere effort to imitate Raaja. I loved it!
One of the better mixes I have seen from Murali.
The Karaoke effort is commendable. Voicings on the guitar sound original. Did I hear Swarplug (Mridangam)?
Mixing done by Murali? I see the right sibilance amounts and balance between vocals and background.
Meera,
Arumaiyaana padal.. unga voice.. athilum azhagu... romba unarndhu paadi irukeenga...
vazhthukkal
Pradip..
unga voice ithuthaan first time kekkuren... nalla paadi irukeenga... kandippa ungaloda matha songs kekkuren..
Good job guyz!!!
Kanya
his is one of my favorite songs. Fell for it the very first time I listened to it ! Don't know if it was the tune or the singing or the words.
==
Meera, You've has come back with a bang. Wonderfully sung. Ably supported by Pradip( Better than IR IMHO).
Very nice Karaoke work by Murali ( one observation - The Mridangam sound lacks base!)
Thank you for a great song Pradip /Meera / Murali.
Mux:
The mrudangam sounds you hear are from the Swarshala samples for MOTIF ES. I just wanted to try using the,. This song I though would be a good place to start. I think vocals mixing was done by either pradip or Meera. I did the Karaoke only. And I think Meera is running a fever. no wonder she is tired. But that adds to the pathos of the song nicely.
NV:
very true. ippo dhaanE piLLaiyaar suzi. konjam konjamaaga base, treble ellaam future la gavanichchu paNNarEn. please keep ponting out. IT is the best support I can ask. Thanks.
Meera,Pradip and Murali
Wonderful rendition and karoke has come out good. Meera voice merugerina maari irukku.
Murali, Meera, Thanks for giving me the oppurtunity to be the "ice on the caking" or "sabji in the full course meal" as Murali put it:-)
Sometimes it also gives immense pleasure to be part of a combined effort.
Mux, I will claim that pat on the back for mixing the vocals, as I think you are a pro in sound recording and mixing, and your encouragement is definitely needed for me and murali who are trying to find our foot in recording and mixing.I wills urely pester you with some doubts on plugins:-)
Mux:
I am not sure about the tired feeling you talk about but yeah whatever you hear there was done intentionally!
I try to keep the scene in mind whenever I sing a song and ofcourse the words. So this is picturised on a girl who's fallen in love, is forced to go outta town by her brother so she will not see the hero anymore. So that was the effect I wanted-- the sogams/tiredness you noted.
Thanks for the comment. Probably the first time I am seeing you comment on Swarasthaanam (-;
Murali:
I wish I could say "yes" to your fever disclaimer[dc].
Given that I have just started a light fever, whatever I sing starting today for the next couple of days can be attributed to the virus! This is probably like getting an anticipatory bail in advance *grin*
Regrettably, Murali's [dc] doesn't apply for this piece which was done almost a week ago.
So.. there's the whole truth and nothing but it *LOL*
oho..may be your virus affected the song while you handled it while uploading :)
Great job, all three of you! And now you can't just sit idle Meera!! :-)
Meera supera paadi irukeenga. It was so nice to hear.
Pradip sir, Meera and Murali - Thanks for the song.
@Meera Welcome back.
Super song choice fits your voice well and nicely sung with emotion.
@Pradip Sir-amazing modulation almost one can hear Raajas voice infact much better ;)
@Murali -wonderful karokee mix, the hardwork you have put in this track clearly shows in its wonderful quality. The bass runs were neat and sweet.
Great job everyone.
Meera: Excellent Rendition !Wonderful Bhaavam !! I especially loved the mellowing down at the end.
"Kalvi Karka " and " Enakku Mattum Sondam" stanzas require a special mention.
Pradip: You were terrific in your cameo .. Good effort at imitating IR . I found your version better. Wish IR could listen to this & not to forget Fundu Mixing !!
Murali.. Kalakkitteenga.. Super orchestration !! Guitar and Mridangam effects chance illa !! Koodiya seekkaram Motif use panni thani aavardhanathoda kutcheriye panniduveengannu nenaikkaren !! :)
Star studded team --- Great Team work -- !! KUDOS !!
Cheers,
Barani
Wow.. Very well sung!!.. Felt nice listening to it... Nice mixing also.. The karaoke is cool too!!.. The mridangam etc from swarshala.. Mebbe a bit more base volume on the mridangam?
Ah! I enjoyed the rendition very much.
Please keep coming more. :D
First time here thanks to MS. Meera tops wiht nice support from Pradip and MS. Brought back the memories of the times. Thanks Meera. (Of course it was better than Sasirekha!)
It is one of my favourites too. Loved it !! Excellent performance !!!
meera, its simply awesome...your voice is just perfect, if you ask me! it has this peaceful tone to it, dont know if you get what i say! but the way you have sung it is terrific.
pradipji's support has come out very good too. so has murali's karaoke.
keep the good ones coming!!
Shyam (tsjstudio)
Hi Meera, Smooooooth is the word from me. And beautiful too. Pradip sir's contribution is right on target. Murali's music ably supported your voice. And in the context of the mix, your voice sounded very intimate, like singing to a group of people in the room.
One cud point out this drawback and that drawback, but when somehting is this beautiful, I cannot see anything like that.
Semma late pOlrukku...
@ Meera
I see that you'vemade sure that neither Murali nor Jo could've sung it. "kanathu kulhlha" kaelhvi patturkkaen, aanaa idhu "adhalha baadhaalham" range. Beautifully sung! Mellowing start, near flawless rendition and a great finish. Worth the wait.
@Pradip
Wonderful Pradip. The "thaka dhom " part is priceless. A li'l too much stress on the starting syllables at the beginning of the song is a bit odd on the ears, but everything else overrides it.
Nice karaoke Murali.
Nice song. Everything goes well. Well sung by pravin and meera. Keep it up.
Meera, Glad to see you back in action. I have not heard the original version of this song, so this a original as far as I am concerned! Brilliant sound, great singing & music. Well done to all three!
Beautiful song...your voice sounds lovely. Keep it up!
Pradip: you voice is fantastic!
Great Team.
Aravind, bharath,
You are absolutely right on spot! I have remixed the song with the harsh part toned down. You can listen to the remixed version on my Blog.:-)
Thank you all for your positive feedback!
Pradip,
I quite can't put into words how much I truly appreciate your diligence and perserverance for doing a song right no matter how trivial it might or might not be!
I know I have said this in the past, but for good measure here it is again- "I really wish your attitude to give your best to a song rubs off on me"
Been an absolute pleasure working with you....
Thank you meera for taking the trouble and updating the song!
SUPERB!!!!!!...WOW.YOUR VOICE IS SIMPLY THE BEST.YOU SOUND GREAT.ONE OF YOUR BEST.LISTENING TO IT FOR THE FIRST TIME.MY MOM ALSO LIKED IT WHO OFTEN VISITS YOUR BLOG.....KEEP IT COMING....EVERYTHING IS PERFECT.

Hey Meera - really enjoyed listening to this song. One of my favourites. Kudos to all of you who collaborated.

"Awesome"... ithai vida uyarndha vaarthai enakku kidaikkavillai... Fantastic work... It makes me sing and ask u.. can I have a chance to sing??..
Pradeep sir and Meera
I know this song for sure, let me remember its a song from movie Seethakokachiluka in Telugu, don't know whether it is in this pace in Tamil, but in Telugu its a bit fast than this. That's it the comparision ends there, you both did a great job. Pradeep sir, whenever i listened to your songs, you sound different. Dont know when I will reach your stage, Meera you did really well.
that was awesome....meera your voice is just amazing...pradeep u were great too!!! it was jus incredible....
Hi Both,
Its awesome rendering. This is the way to sing a song.
Good job!...
Nice bacground score...
Thanks... Sasi
Hi Meera ,
Excellent rendition . You have a nice timbre and the song has come out with better nuances than the original .I would say " Kaadhil Vizhundhu , Idhayam Nuzhaindhu , Uyiril Kalandha Paadale " .
Pradeep , Cheers !
Please mail this track to kumarsplanet@gmail.com .
Thanks in advance .
May God Bless you with Good Health & Prosperity .
Wonderful.. Very well sung...
I have been listening to some selective tracks so far from your blog and I must say in my personal view, this rendition hits the top of the chart so far.. Beginning of the stanzas are very well done...
~ Vicky
PS: Other tracks that I listened such as 'Ededho ennam', 'Mella mella', 'POongatheve' etc.. all are very well song.. but the tempo was definitely faster than the original and that somehow made me feel that the song is racing away at places and not doing justice to the rest of everyone's efforts... But the tempo in this one is spot on... So on that note, please take extra care for the original tempo on the Karokes tracks.. it would elevate the songs very well.. just a humble suggestion..
Meera - I have not heard the original, but liked the way you have sung this one very much. Perfectly suits your voice as some others have said. I listened to several of your songs today and this is perhaps one of the best.
Would like to see more obvious improvisation as you have done with Margazhipoove instead of the subtle ones. I know it is more effort, but it is well worth the effort.
Your friendly neighbor
Padma
