Dhaam Dhoom

Here's wishing all the readers of this blog, and audiobloggers around the globe, a very wonderful and prosperous New Year! 2008 has been a mixed bag in many respects, just as any other year I guess. Musically, quite a satisfying year I should admit, with a lot of avenues opening up for me personally.

The song featured today is from the movie Dhaam Dhoom starring Jeyam Ravi and 2 heroines not worth mentioning!! Richard Gere, should, on all accounts hang himself if he gets to see this rather poorly made remake of his movie "The Red Corner". Movie was barely passable with some insane location shoots in the then USSR, but for the saving grace of HJ's music. Some of the songs in the OST are okay, and 2 main reasons I have done this song are:

1. Got a nice karoake soundtrack and
2. Song didn't require too much concentration *LOL*.

Typically, recordings seem to happen on my day off and I have realized that it takes way, way more motivation to sit and record an equivalent of paadariyaen padiappariyaen types. This number by Bombay Jayashree follows HJ's typical equation:

A bassy voice + some harmonies interspersed here and there= HJ's soft hits

This track opens with a harmony by Krish, a voice that I have always liked, given his ease of rendition and voice clarity. Interestingly, I wish I had sung his part and not the main female lead :)

So, here it is folks, listen in and do let me know.

Ninaithu- Shreya Ghosal at her best

This was my first post almost 3 years ago, but sans K-track though. Found this somewhere quite a while ago, and I  just, just couldn't resist the awesome K-track , so here it is.. encore

Probably one of the slow ballads of Yuvan Shankar Raja's that has managed to stay on my mind for quite a while now. Pity it didn't get featured in the movie. Female version is by Shreya and I think she has done an amazing job on it. Somehow, the male version by KK somehow didn't impress me that much, which is very surprising since I think KK rocks in similar songs.

This K-track starts with one of the most beautiful instrumental pieces which was featured in the movie. Following that comes the actual song..

Dedicated to my better half.... for his upcoming birthday! Advance Happy Birthday, Manu :)

13.1 miles done and a song to follow it up :)

Sunday last, managed to finish a half marathon . Clocked 2H and 58 mins!! It was awesome and probably one of the most life changing experiences I have had until now.

Now, to the main action item :D

Arun GS suggested this song ages ago, been more than a couple of months I would guess. Somehow, life was happening in the last couple of months with additions, subtractions and what nots. So, thanks to you Arun, for being a patient soul :-)

This is a Malayalam number that I have attempted after a very very long time. Think the last song I sang from "Gods own country" was with Pradip Somasundaran almost a year ago!!! Well, time to revisit again...

Song: Maaya Manchalil

Raathiriyil Poothirukkum

Am glad to introduce Narayanan Raju, an aspiring singer and a dosth of mine through this song :) Narayanan performs with an established Telugu band "Aavakkai" and also with an upcoming band "Sahana" in the Bay area San Francisco area.

Taken a classic hit from the IL stable and given it a shot here. The movie Thanga magan broke records in its own way when it was released. Probably the most famous number in the movie when it released. Hamsaanandhi raagam handled exquisitely by the Maestro.

So, here it is..

Duet with Sindhuja

Recording almost after 2 months, this time it is a female duet with Sindhuja Bhakthavatsalam

This rustic folk number is very beautiful, easy on the ears and amazingly rendered by Swarnalatha & Uma Ramanan.

Murali Venkatraman requested this song and he also chose the singers to go along with it :) Took the time to make a k-track for it and pointed out things that we could improve on after the 1st take last week. So, thanks Murali for unearthing this song, making a track and getting us to render it.

Finally a live recording :)

Dole Dole (part 1)

Dole dole (part 2)

One of the chartbusters that I sang as part of 'Thillana" at Sacramento in December 2007. Unfortunately the full song is not available.

Fellow thillanaites Durga and Anitha have rendered the harmonies for this number while Subbu is my co singer (thanks for the video thalai:)

Audio not of great quality, but still a live song :)
