Anuraaga Varsholsavam- original composition by Sachin Balu

I have great pleasure in introducing a really talented, budding composer, Sachin Balu from Kannur, Kerala. He is all of 19 years old, and hails from a family of musicians and this is first ever original composition. His brother Roshan Balu is just about making a mark in Bollywood!
Thanks Sachin, for the opportunity, look forward to more of your works.
This song is in Malayalam, and is about lost love and memories. I envisioned this as someone singing while looking at or feeling the rain. Did this way back in March, and glad to see it finally posted here on my blog… Hope you all enjoy this one :)

Parayaan Maranna (Outcast Vocals Cover)- Feat., Kaushik Srenevasan

This is the first post on my space for the year 2011, and my 6th year of audioblogging with 3 of that being on Muziboo. This is a wonderful music community which has helped me grow, improve, and in turn introduced some talented and enthusiastic musicians to interact with. Like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have been regular visitors to this space. Your support & encouragement has meant a lot in the last couple of years…

I have known Kaushik for almost a year now, and he is easily one of the most soulful pianists I have ever come across. I am so glad to have collaborated with him especially for this number. He tailored the arrangement to my vocals instead of the other way around….quite an interesting experience for me. Thanks Kaushik for all your hard work— given that I had improvised quite a lot, I am sure it wasn’t easy :)

This cover also marks my first attempt at mixing everything from scratch. I had to learn about frequency of instruments, spatial placement of instruments, clashing of vocals with the other tracks et al. Thanks Bala and Jay for those numerous crash courses on mixing-couldn’t have gone this far without you both!

Was a challenging cover for me in every conceivable department, but the major head breaker personally was the language/diction. Know fully well it’s not perfect as it should be, but still something that I am proud that I gave a shot at that I wanted to share it, nonetheless. Apologize for some recording glitches, and those diction errors, which I am sure are lurking in almost every line. And as with every other cover of mine, you will find quite a few improvs here and there

Sounds better on headphones….and thanks for your time.

Parayaan Maranna…

Etho Januvary Maasam (cover version) from Orkkukka Vallapozhum

Heard this first in Jo’s voice quite a while ago, and recently by Unni. Thanks Unni for the track and lyrics.

Sorry for the slips in diction, have tried my best not to butcher it…

Oru Murai (cover version) with Murali Ramanathan

This song has been in my mind for god knows— how many years!? Thanks to never finding a track, was always on a wish list and remained there. This cover has been in the making for a while now. And, it so happened that I did this song before I went into my self proclaimed singing block crap :( Although I have done some sporadic recordings here and there, I haven’t been able to record anything to my satisfaction for the last month or so! Somehow, it is just not happening, and am really happy Murali Ramanathan could get this done, so I can keep my space active :)) Thank you Murali for singing this along with me.

Probably one of the tougher numbers I have done until now. I wanted to do it in one shot, and have managed to for the most part, except for some punch ins which I couldn’t avoid *darn*!!

A few thank you’s are in order here. Firstly, many thanks to Pradip who provided me with some pointers which made me revist my initial take. Srividya— this song would never have seen this day unless you had uploaded it yourself and I knew that a track existed for this song
LOL. So, thanks for the track!

And, last but definitely not the least, George— thanks so much for suggesting this song, and this song goes out to you.

Originally sung by: K.S.Chitra and K.J.Yesudas

Best enjoyed in headphones, and thanks in advance for listening

Minnadi Minnadi ( Cover version )

Ayush, my son completes 2 years today. So, this goes out to him and interestingly this song has always reminded me of someone singing to a small kid ( although honestly I can't understand too much of the lyrics :-)))

Suggested by Tailgunner aka Anup a long long time ago, and by that I really mean a lloooong time ago— say about 2 yrs ago :))

Somehow, never got around to doing this. I still remember listening to the original he sent along with the k-track and falling instantly in love with it. Thanks Anup for both of those…

So, here’s the song, my shot at it and I hope you like my take on it. This song is specially for you, for being a good friend and an amazing musician, needless to say :P

Good luck with your new job, post PhD stuff and ofcourse life, importantly.

Hope all of you like this cover, and tried to take care of obvious Na pronounciations in this mallu number.

13.1 miles done and a song to follow it up :)

Sunday last, managed to finish a half marathon . Clocked 2H and 58 mins!! It was awesome and probably one of the most life changing experiences I have had until now.

Now, to the main action item :D

Arun GS suggested this song ages ago, been more than a couple of months I would guess. Somehow, life was happening in the last couple of months with additions, subtractions and what nots. So, thanks to you Arun, for being a patient soul :-)

This is a Malayalam number that I have attempted after a very very long time. Think the last song I sang from "Gods own country" was with Pradip Somasundaran almost a year ago!!! Well, time to revisit again...

Song: Maaya Manchalil
Movie: Ottayaal Pattalam
Music Director: Sharath
Originally rendered by: G.Venugopal & Radhika Tilak

Please do let us know how it sounded. Valare nanni!
